Chateau de Leelanau | Suttons Bay, MI
Clarity Squared designed and built a custom website to better represent the Chateau de Leelanau brand.
Chateau de Leelanau is a winery located in beautiful Leelanau County, MI. As the business grew, they expanded their offerings by launching a line of Tractor Pull Hard Ciders. Over time, it became apparent that their website was not representing the brand as well as it could be. Updates had been made to the tasting room and print materials, but it was time to take their online marketing to the next level with a brand new website!
Goals for the new website were to:
The project began with a review of the analytics from the old website and research of the industry and competitors. Next, we gathered photos and restructured the content with the proper messaging.
We then moved into the design phase. Knowing that this website needed to be unique, the customization started with sketches and evolved into the framework of the full site. Updated content and aesthetically appealing photos were the final additions to bring this new site to life.
Behind the scenes testing, optimization, and configuration prepared the website for a smooth launch!
It is essential that a website works well regardless of the device and screen size that the visitor is using. A responsive design provides an exceptional experience for ALL visitors.
Research shows that hiding menu items behind a menu button greatly decreases visitor interaction. We created an always visible menu so visitors could quickly view the options and navigate to another page.
From the main menu organization to the home page layout, Wine and Cider are highlighted equally throughout the website. Individual pages for each tell the two unique stories and highlight Chateau de Leelanau’s award winning products!
We begin every project with a strategy and research session. This step is key to effectively organizing a website to serve its intended purpose. For CDL, the first menu items immediately make visitors aware of the two types of products offered (Wine and Cider). Next is information on visiting the tasting room, the primary place for everyone to enjoy these products! Lastly, we focused on background information and additional pages for news and contact information.
We use a content management system that makes it simple for clients to update the website content. Changes are immediately visible in a live preview that allows them to see the changes in real-time. With this user-friendly system, there is no need to understand code.
At the time of this project, Chateau de Leelanau was not ready to allow for customers to order wine online, but that was in the plans for the future. We built the website with this in mind. Products are already configured and the website is ready to support online sales when CDL is ready to take the next step!
In order to best represent the business in a way that separated them from competitors, we created a 100% custom designed website for Chateau de Leelanau. Pulling from CDL’s established brand guide, we integrated their brand color palette with new colors for a fresh, unique design.
The wine page design is based off of the tasting room menus. It categorizes wines into three groups: White Wines, Red Wines, and Fruit Wines. The custom list also provides a scale that allows visitors to quickly compare the dryness of each wine.
Due to the increasing number of visitors accessing a website using their phones while on-the-go, the speed of the website has become crucial. Google and other search engines now use this as one of the factors for ranking a website. Our goal was to create a website that provides the best user experience and also performs well in searches.
